Aubyn Stahmer

Aubyn Stahmer is a research scientist and clinical psychologist at the Child and Adolescent Services Research Center at Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego and in the Psychology Department at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Stahmer received her doctorate in psychology from UC San Diego, specializing in interventions for children with autism, and the use of behavioral techniques to improve play skills in this population. Approximately 13 years ago, she developed the Children’s Toddler School inclusion program and has recently assisted in the development of the Autism Discovery Institute, a research/clinical parternship at Rady Children’s Hospital. She received a career development award from the National Institutes of Health to re-specialize in services research and has since been applying a services framework to the study of autism spectrum disorders. She has published many scholarly articles on inclusion, play development, parent education and early intervention services in the area of autism. She recently received a grant from the Department of Education to study interventions for children with autism in school programs, working with teachers and school administrators to adapt evidence-based models for use in the community. She is the co-director of the treatment core of the San Diego Center for Excellence in Autism at UC San Diego. Her role on the project includes oversight of the intervention received by study participants including examining methods of individualizing intervention based on child and family characteristics.  Her current interests include the study of early intervention systems for children with autism, and the translation of evidence-based practices into community settings.
